Maternity Session + Favorites

September 9, 2011

We met at one of my very favorite places just as the sun was peeking through from behind the clouds. The light was gorgeous, changing from a golden hue to soft pink and pale yellow. (I’m telling ya, I can’t get enough of these summer field sessions!)  I may be biased because she’s my friend, but she is one stunning mama and her son is so cute I can hardly stand it. Even if he wasn’t into getting his picture taken (his mom is a photographer also, so you know our little ones are a bit more challenging in front of a camera) he flashed me a few smiles. As you can tell from the photos below, this is one beautiful family and I’m positively giddy with anticipation to meet the newest member of their family soon!

Such a sweet and adorable couple expecting a little girl who I’m sure will be beyond cute, I can’t wait!

We decided to reschedule due to rain and the next day’s forecast looked clear. So I was a bit surprised when it was cloudy to start…and then…the clouds parted and glorious blue skies and sunshine – yay! As if this beautiful expecting mom wasn’t glowing enough, when the sun came out it wrapped her in light. There is so much love that awaits their little girl. You may have seen a glimpse of the wonderful anticipation on their sneak peek, but here are a few of my favorites from their outdoor maternity session.

I ♥ maternity sessions – if you are expecting your little one soon I’d love an opportunity to photograph this time in your life. FIND OUT MORE

A sunny day on the Silverdale waterfront was certainly fun for big brother, who loved finding rocks to toss into the water. If it wasn’t for him pointing out the boats and little fishies, I might have been too preoccupied asking him about all the different things he liked to do. After all, he deserves the spotlight now because soon enough he’ll have to share it with his little baby sister. He sure did pucker up to give his Mom’s belly a kiss and was so sweet picking flowers and giving one to everyone (including sissy). Here are more photos of the session with this wonderful family and beautiful expecting Mom :)

I have many more to share of this beautiful couple besides their sneak peek. After a wonderful walk in the park we stopped for a snack at my favorite cupcake shop Bella Bella and then onto another location I had scouted a while back and wanted to try. Everything about the day was wonderful, especially this super sweet set of expecting parents.

You know you want to sing it…”sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage” :)

This couple was a lot of fun to photograph and to be around. When I’m doing a lifestyle / casual style session like this, its more about directing rather than posing. They were so quick to interact with one another on their own, creating a situation that is natural and resulting in a photograph that is genuine and emotional. I have a feeling their baby boy will be smiling during his session too with all of the love and laughter this couple shares.

I was definitely observing the awesomeness of this couple with a laughter filled session complete with a “Blue Steel” impression from Dad-to-be. We had a last minute location change due to windy weather but it ended up being a walk in the park after all.

We started out the session by reading “There’s Going to be a Baby” – if you’ve ever read this book to your child, you’ll understand why some of it caught me by surprise…too many ideas for big brother’s who might be a wee bit jealous. It was worth a few laughs and a few gasps for these lifestyle photos of the two of them, isn’t he a charmer? Such an adorable smile! I had to include this first one – using Mom’s belly as an armrest – why not? :)  I think I’ll have to try this again, it sure was a fun way to break the ice and get to know everyone.

It was sunny out but the chilly windy weather put us back inside to warm up shortly after catching a few shots. Though the light coming into their home was incredible – it truly made her pregnancy glow absolutely radiant. You know, its amazing how you can set up the same shot as another session and end with a unique result…the space, the lighting, and of course each client is so different…it really just makes it their own. I had such a great time with this Mom and this family, I’m looking forward to meeting little brother any day now – can’t wait!

Today I’ll admit that a part of me was singing “Rain, rain, go away, I know you’ll be back, just make it another day” but its the way it goes…thank goodness for rainboots, umbrellas, and a super sweet couple to work with :)

Umbrellas + Rainboots

You just never know what the Pacific Northwest weather has in store…and if you’ll be able to shoot outdoors or have to rely on inside. So I’ve split my favorites up into indoor and outdoor posts to show how I work with both. Fortunately we saw a break in rain and the most vibrantly blue skies and sunshine appeared (yay!). I loved working with this gorgeous Mom…so sweet and so willing to try whatever it was I wanted to do…even if that meant putting on a blue summer dress and sunhat in chilly weather. The Port Townsend waterfront was such a serene setting for this beautiful expecting mom.
